WELCOME TO FARM SCHOOL
Wren Haven Farm School offers hands-on educational classes inspired by the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education. Our classes combine meaningful instruction, practical skills, nature study, the arts, heritage crafts, and opportunities for students to develop careful observation, creativity, independent thought, and, most importantly, a love of learning.
As a Charlotte Mason homeschooling family, we have spent more than 11 years learning alongside our own children and bringing that philosophy into our homeschool, co-ops, and community classes. Over the years, we have taught children and adults in a variety of subjects, including foraging, watercolor painting, basket-making, fiber arts, nature journaling, Bible history, gardening, heritage skills, and traditional crafts.
Our classes are designed for both children and adults, because we believe learning is a lifelong pursuit and that everyone is capable of learning something new. We want our students to leave with greater confidence in their ability to learn, create, develop new talents, and pursue skills they may never have thought possible.
We are especially passionate about preserving and reviving heritage skills and traditional knowledge that have been passed down through generations—or, in some cases, nearly lost along the way. These skills connect us to the people and traditions that came before us and give us practical knowledge that can be carried forward to future generations.
Our goal is to provide children and adults with a rich and varied education through hands-on experience working side by side with skilled instruction, nature, art, practical work, and meaningful ideas. We believe people learn deeply and retain knowledge when they have the opportunity to observe, explore, question, create, practice, and share what they have discovered. Through our classes, we hope to cultivate not only knowledge and skill, but also the confidence and curiosity to keep learning throughout life.
Our Instructors
Meg Stacy brings more than seven years of hands-on experience in homesteading, gardening, animal husbandry, nature study, and heritage and craft skills. She has also taught art to children and adults for nine years and incorporates drawing, watercolor, fiber arts, handicrafts, and other creative skills into her educational programs.
Meg partners with Wild Oak School and Grow Creative in Pensacola to provide art, handicraft, and heritage-skills instruction. Since 2019, she and her husband have operated Wren Haven Homestead LLC, creating opportunities for local families, small businesses, and young entrepreneurs to participate in their community through their monthly farmers market and kid's markets.
Jeff Stacy holds a degree in Bible Ministry and has served the Pensacola community for more than 12 years. He currently works as a full-time pulpit minister for Leonard Street church of Christ and has a passion for teaching and serving families in the community.
Jeff also has more than five years of classroom teaching experience with students in grades K–8, having taught at Escambia Christian School prior to its closing. His background in Bible, history, teaching, and Christian education contributes to our humanities and Bible-history offerings.
Learning From Experienced Teachers
For select classes, Wren Haven Farm School invites guest instructors and local professionals with specialized knowledge and experience to teach specific subjects. These may include local apiarists, nutrition professionals, naturopaths, cottage bakers, farmers, artisans, and other skilled practitioners and small-business owners.
Our students have the opportunity to learn directly from people who actively practice the skills and subjects they teach. This allows our classes to move beyond books and instruction into hands-on learning, observation, demonstration, practice, and real-world application.
A Rich Education
We believe education should be more than the accumulation of facts. Children need opportunities to encounter living ideas, beautiful things, practical skills, nature, art, history, literature, and the people who keep these traditions alive.
Our classes are designed to nurture curiosity and attention while giving students concrete knowledge and skills they can carry with them beyond the classroom, and hopefully pass along to their children one day.
At Wren Haven Farm School, we hope to create a place where people can learn, make, explore, observe, practice, and grow—while families build meaningful connections within our local community.
Every month we will try to vary the topics and handicrafts we offer. Some classes you might expect are: nature journaling and foraging, medicine making (teas, salves, tinctures), natural plant dyeing and paint making, animal husbandry, wool processing, spinning, knitting, crochet, basket making, and a bee keeping class in the spring and fall. Our classes range from one hour to three hours depending on the time needed to thoroughly cover our subject matter and complete our handicrafts. Most classes will be ages 8 and above, because of the attention to details and thoroughness of topics covered. Parents may drop off or choose to stay and learn with their children. At times parents might be called on to help out. Typical classes size will be 10 children or less so we can make sure to give one on one attention to each child as they learn a new skill or subject. The prices of the course will depend on the supplies needed and time allotted to the lesson. Please make a note if your children have any food or environmental allergies. Also, be aware there are animals on the property and in the house including large dogs. Inform us if your child has a fear of dogs and we will arrange for them to be elsewhere.
